Understanding Facebook Edgerank

Understanding Facebook Edgerank | Réseaux et médias sociaux, veille, technique et outils | Scoop.it

With 900 million people on Facebook, the social network is a prime medium for marketers.  herefore, this makes Edgerank one of the most important algorithms in marketing. Edgerank is a secret algorithm that ranks the content you publish and determines which content will be visible to your fans. Edgerank not only determines which of your connections are the most important to you and, hence, whose content appears most frequently; but also determines which kind of content appears higher than others in the Facebook newsfeed.

The Real Value of Facebook Isn't Your Likes or Fans

The Real Value of Facebook Isn't Your Likes or Fans | Réseaux et médias sociaux, veille, technique et outils | Scoop.it

Most businesses focus on their Facebook page. More specifically, they want to know how to get more Likes/fans or engagement.

These are all common questions from businesses looking to grow with Facebook. The problem is that they may be missing out on the bigger picture of Facebook. Sure, these things matter, but let’s face it, many of your customers don’t want to like you on Facebook (they just don’t care enough about you) and most of your fans have probably already done business with you.

Think about how you use Facebook. You don’t go out and “Like” random pages for businesses you don’t already use or plan to use (with the exception of some inspirational brands). We usually like things on Facebook that we like and use in the real world.

Facebook Brand Page: You're (Probably) Doing It Wrong

Facebook Brand Page: You're (Probably) Doing It Wrong | Réseaux et médias sociaux, veille, technique et outils | Scoop.it
On average, only 6% of a brand's Facebook fans engage with its Facebook Page content.

It looks as though Facebook might not be the effective customer engagement engine so many business owners have thought it to be.

On average, only 6% of a brand's Facebook fans actually engage with the brand's Facebook Page via likes, comments, and answers to poll questions (among other ways), according to a new study by Facebook app developer Napkin Labs. The study found over the course of a month, the average Facebook fan will engage with a brand's page less than once.

It turns out, this is usually the company's fault. Riley Gibson, the CEO and co-founder of Napkin Labs, said that most companies simply focus on growing their number of page likes via contests and sweepstakes. But these "like grab" tactics do little to foster lasting, consistent customer engagement.

"It all starts with content," he said. "Like count is becoming less and less relevant. ... Engagement is about creating great content relevant to your customers--content that's helpful and useful to them."...

Facebook Introduces Pinterest-Style, Curated "Collections"

Facebook Introduces Pinterest-Style, Curated "Collections" | Réseaux et médias sociaux, veille, technique et outils | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Facebook has introduced a new curation feature designed to allow its users to collect and organize their favorite "products" into so-called "Collections".

According to Hubspot "the new feature called 'Collections,' allows marketers to add “Want” or “Collect” buttons to news feed posts about products."

Source: http://blog.hubspot.com/blog/tabid/6307/bid/33698/Facebook-Tests-Pinterest-Style-Feature-Called-Collections.aspx

The new FB "Collections" is publicly available to everyone, and it is being tested "with 7 retail partners -- Pottery Barn, Wayfair, Victoria’s Secret, Michael Kors, Neiman Marcus, Smith Optics, and Fab.com."

(you need to go to those FB brad pages to test it).

It also seems that the feature can be activated in at least three different ways by one of these three upcoming action buttons:

a) "Want": adds the product to a Timeline section of a user's profile called “Wishlist”

b) "Collect": adds the item to a Collection called “Products”

c) "Like": a special version of the standard "Like" button that also adds the item to “Products”

N.B.: While Collections are free for business pages to use, they're only visible to the page's fans. You have to "Like" the page in order to see these types of posts.
