What’s your first memory of social media?Twitter, perhaps? Or maybe Facebook?
If you’re of a certain age, you’ll likely remember when MySpace was very much numero uno amongst all social platforms. Roll the years back a little further, and you could have been one of the (relatively) few who were amongst the pioneers of modern social networking on Friendster.
But here’s the thing: the history of social media actually goes back a lot further, and its roots can be found in blogging, Google, AOL, ICQ, the beginnings of the world wide web and, perhaps surprisingly, CompuServe. This infographic from Creative Ramblings takes a closer look at the history of social media, 1969-2012....
We always talk about how social media can affect your brand, your reputation your social life. What we don’t discuss is the effect it has on our body and brain. What sorts ofchemical reactions happen each time we check our Twitter? How does our brain work now that internet is everywhere?
We all have seen the symptoms in ourselves. In fact, we can’t spend more than 10 minutes without checking our email or messages. But, apparently, there is a study which confirms that there are huge psychopathological impacts that social media have brought to our lives. The results are impressive and you can find them below, in the infographic conceived and created by the team at TollFreeForwarding...
...To think of what “might be” a few years from now is barely fathomable but really exciting! I remember listening to the keynote speaker at the 1990 Seybold Conference talk about how books in the future would be enjoyed on electronic readers, and thinking, “not in my lifetime would electronic readers replace printed books.” We all know how that turned out.
Let’s go back and hit the high points from the past ten years. Below is a visual infographic timeline followed by a more detailed look at each year! Pay close attention to the ones that were launched in 2012; some of them have a lot of potential to be game changers!
Here is a classic question asked by marketers who want to optimize their social media updates: When is the best time to post, pin and tweet your content?
What did we do before mobile devices? I remember trying to arrange to meet friends when I was a teenager and you never quite knew if they were going to turn up late or not but today it doesn’t matter as you can tweet, Whatsapp, text or even -heaven forbid – actually call them. This enables us all to have that constant always-on access to the internet and stay in touch by our social media channels....
Social media is 24/7. Someone is always tweeting, posting on Facebook, or uploading a new picture to instagram. However, for social media managers and businesses alike, this can be quite of a challenge. We obviously can’t be online all day, even for those of us who are social media managers or strategist. But how do you know when to best reach your audience? There are a couple different ways to determine when your audience is online...
So how are brands capitalising on this social smorgasbord? The results are in, and they’re somewhat mixed. While 87 percent of Fortune 100 companies have a presence on at least one social media site, with Twitter leading the way, only 26 percent of businesses regularly include a call to action in their tweets. Moreover, less than half (44 percent) of customer questions sent on Twitter are answered within 24 hours, and 56 percent are ignored altogether. Overall, less than 20 percent of U.S. companies have integrated social media with their customer service, sales or product development processes. This, and more, can be found in this infographic , which takes a closer look at how businesses are using social media....

Damn. That guy likes to kill off characters. In his latest film, Django Unchained, The Dog Scene is one of the most heart-wrenching, nasty ones in motion picture history. But that is what Mr. Tarantino is famous for. Death Proof, Pulp Fiction, the Kill Bill’s: they all go over the top with the gore and that’s why its ok. If it was too real it wouldn’t be bearable, but the overblown bloodshed has the slightest tinge of humor....

Sharing your infographic that’s hosted on your website/blog and engaging the social sharing potential is key to maximizing the work you put in to creating your infographics. Each social network has different image display requirements. For example, tall infographics do not present well on Facebook. Facebook outlines horizontal images and a ratio of 1200 w x 627 h, meaning you may need to create some sharing images to drive social viewers to the main infographic.

People watched 78,385 hours of Netflix content, and Android users downloaded over 250,000 apps. Amazon shoppers spent over a half a million dollars, and 690 million emails were sent.

First, there was the internet. Then, social media came along. Now, the newest untamed frontier is ‘human media.’ That is to say, human media is a closer, more personal form of social media, but where people communicate face to face, as opposed to communicating through text. And more and more people and businesses are starting to realize just how big human media is and is going to be. What Is Human Media? Human media connects people more intimately than regular social media sites. Through platforms like Google+, and using tools like G+ Hangouts, people and businesses are able to defy geographic distances to talk face to face. The entire world is at your disposal, as you can join or watch Hangouts in an infinite number of topics. You can join or watch Hangouts that are cooking lessons, virtual knitting circles, financial advice, DIY projects, medical care, and so much more. If you can think of it, a G+ Hangout can be done on it....
Do you like to strut your stuff when it comes to social media or do you have a tendency to get involved in protracted Twitter debates? Maybe you prefer to stay on the fringes? Those are just some of the dozen distinct personalities revealed by a research project investigating the extent of the influence of social media in people’s lives. The survey, conducted by online bank First Direct, found that social media, and the technology we use to access it, could be changing our personalities in quite fundamental ways as some of us exhibit traits very different on social networks to those that we have in the real world. Dr David Giles, a reader in media psychology at Winchester University, who helped analyse the findings said that mobile devices in particularly have had a big impact not just on the amount of time we spend using social networks but on our personalities....
