Video marketing has become an essential marketing tactic, and search engines have made note of the fact that the most valuable websites offer both text and video content. As such, they’re ranking sites offering video content higher in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Page).

Some important facts you should know about video marketing are that adding video in marketing emails can increase click-through rates by as much as 300 percent. Also, video marketing’s importance is steadily rising because mobile video consumption rates double each year. Perhaps the most attractive aspect of video marketing is that it is often free and requires no investment funds. It is and has always been free to post on video sites like Youtube and Vimeo.

Ten Great Examples of Video Content Marketing

Ten Great Examples of Video Content Marketing | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Everyone likes to watch videos on the web.

According to official statistics from YouTube, they have ” over a billion users — almost one-third of all people on the Internet — and every day people watch hundreds of millions of hours on YouTube and generate billions of views.”  The statistics portal Statista notes “As of July 2015, more than 400 hours of video were uploaded to YouTube every minute, up from 300 hours per minute in November 2014.”

Wacky cats, wacky stunts, cute cats, cute kids, offensive comedy, and R-rated content are some of the most popular methods to drive traffic. But if someone is trying to promote a product, service, personality or other business, traffic isn’t always the most important metric. Reaching the right audience with the right message becomes the goal. Cute babies might get clicks, but not business.

Audiences are bombarded by words and messages. In a short attention world addicted to entertainment, videos serve as great vehicles for public relations. But videos can be expensive and time-consuming to produce. To discover what works, an all-star panel of publicists and marketers gave us their best advice and, along with me, selected a few of their favorites.  Here’s how to gain market share, reach audiences and achieve some of your public relations goals using video in a very competitive world.

The inevitable burst of the video bubble

The inevitable burst of the video bubble | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The V-word was on everyone’s lips at our Monetising Media conference last week. Debates raged about production, distribution and of course, monetisation of video, but are the benefits of video really all they’re cracked up to be?

The Media Briefing’s flagship State of the Media Industry Report 2017 (coming soon) highlights the importance of video in media organisations going forward. Respondents placed video as the second highest investment target for 2017 behind data, and is also in the top five for revenue terms.

Is video a fad, distracting publishers from thinking long-term? Or is there genuinely the demand, and more importantly a sustainable future, for our current obsession with it?...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Is video on the cusp of imploding? I don't think so but it will definitely evolve.

As Online Video Surges, Publishers Turn to Automation

As Online Video Surges, Publishers Turn to Automation | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
In a television appearance in early June, Michael W. Ferro Jr., the chairman of the newspaper and magazine publishing company Tronc — formerly known as Tribune Publishing — made an astonishing claim.

“Right now we’re doing a couple hundred videos a day,” he said. “We think we need to be doing 2,000 videos a day.”

Mr. Ferro’s comments added to mounting confusion over his embattled company’s sudden rebranding. How could a newspaper publisher create nearly three-quarters of a million videos a year?

But as jarring as Tronc’s goals may sound, the company’s plan is far from novel. In pursuit of more lucrative video advertising and success on dominant social platforms like Facebook, a growing number of publishers have turned to technology that promises to streamline video production, sometimes to the point of near-full automation.

The market for this service is largely split between two companies, Wochit and Wibbitz, which both maintain offices in New York City and Tel Aviv. (Wochit also has an office in London.) Wibbitz’s customers include Bonnier magazines, Hearst, Gannett and the Weather Channel, which uses the service to create local news reports. Customers of Wochit have included Time Inc., CBS Interactive, The Huffington Post, Rotten Tomatoes and NowThis News.
Jeff Domansky's insight:

Tronc, formerly Chicago Tribune publishing, hopes to move from 200 videos daily to 2000 by using automation among other strategies.

eMarketer Releases New Estimates for Video Audience Worldwide - eMarketer

eMarketer Releases New Estimates for Video Audience Worldwide - eMarketer | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

More than 62% of the world's internet users will view digital video in 2017, up from 60.8% in 2016. Digital video viewership's uptake has primarily occurred in developed markets such as the US, Canada and the UK, where internet infrastructure can meet the bandwidth demands of digital video. Strong internet speeds enable consumers to watch entire TV programs online through over-the-top (OTT) services and share videos via social media channels.

eMarketer projects the share of global internet users who watch digital video will increase marginally to 63.4% in 2020. While this growth is small, the consumers who view video will spend more time watching content.

Digital video viewership worldwide has recorded double-digit increases annually since 2013, but 2017 will mark the first year in which growth will fall to single-digit rates, at 8.2%. Developing markets such as India, Indonesia and the Middle East and Africa lag behind by this measure due to a lack of infrastructure that can provide access to mobile and household broadband....

15 Tools for Teaching History With Technology - Best of 2016 | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Like a lot of other social studies teachers, I love videos. I often joke that I became asocial studies teacher so that I could run the filmstrip. (If you don’t get the filmstrip reference, ask someone born before 1980). Here are some tools for creating and sharing videos.

WeVideo (http://wevideo.com/) offers the most features of any of the tools in this list. Itis an online video creation tool that I have written about many times over the last few years. WeVideo offers templates that new users can follow to create their first videos. Advanced WeVideo users can skip the templates, use the full editor, and apply themes totheir videos by choosing them from the themes menu in the editor. In the video editoryou can upload your own media clips or use stock media clips to produce your video.

WeVideo's Google Drive app allows you to save all of your video projects in your GoogleDrive account. WeVideo also offers an Android app and an iPhone app that students canuse to capture images and video footage to add to their projects.Stupeflix (https://studio.stupeflix.com/) allows you to create audio slideshow videos up to twenty minutes in length. You do not need to register in order to create a video on Stupeflix. You can and should register if you want to be able to go back and edit your video after it has been published. To create a video on Stupeflix start by choosing a theme for your video then uploading pictures from your computer.

If you don't have any pictures on your computer you can importing some from your Flickr, Facebook, or Instagram account. Once your pictures are uploaded or imported you can drag and drop them into the sequence in which you want them to appear. You can layer text on each image. To add sound to your video you can select a soundtrack for the entire video or layer sound on each image individually. Stupeflix provides a nice gallery of free soundtracks that you can use or you can import your own audio tracks. When you're ready to see your finished product, click the preview button before publishing your video....

Netflix Heads Digital Video Services List, But There Are Questions

Netflix Heads Digital Video Services List, But There Are Questions | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

You would probably guess right if you were asked “What are the top three digital video subscription services?” They are 1. Netflix 2. Amazon Video and 3. Hulu. No surprises there. But what about number four? According to Parks Associates, that goes to MLB.tv, baseball’s digital video offering. And the rest of the top ten list gets pretty interesting.

This is part of the OTT world, something you’ll be reading a lot about here at Lost Remote. For the uninitiated, OTT means “Over The Top,” and refers to any service that bypasses a cable box – by using Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku and other devices. Some TVs even have OTT capabilities built in. This, I realize, is a simplified explanation. But I want everyone to get the point. Here’s Wikipedia’s expended definition.

What Video Ad Length Is Best on Facebook? - eMarketer | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

It might be easy to assume that the shorter the video ad, the better the completion rate. But maybe things change when it’s on a social platform. According to Q2 data, video ads that were between 30 and 60 seconds long fared better than those of less than 30 seconds on Facebook.

During Q2 2016, Kinetic Social tracked data based on 2 billion social ad impressions, including ad spending for all ad types on Facebook, across both desktop and mobile channels. Kinetic Social is a programmatic social media platform that delivers paid social ads, and more than 90% of its clients are US-based.

According to the data, almost half (or 44%) of 30- to 60-second video ads on Facebook were viewed to completion. Meanwhile, those that ran 30 seconds or less saw a 26% completion rate. Interestingly, 2-minute or longer video ads had the second-best completion rate of 31%....

Video Content on Social Media is About to Boom - Insights

Video Content on Social Media is About to Boom - Insights | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

It’s no secret that video content is on the rise. By 2019, video content will be the driving factor behind 85% of search traffic in the US. Whether it’s Snapchat, Instagram, or Facebook, video content on social media is what marketers need to focus on in 2017. Additionally, marketers must understand how each social channel is optimizing its platform to allow for more video content in users’ feeds, and how brands are using video content to engage their followers.

The reason why these major social networks are optimizing their platforms is because the majority of search traffic will be a result of video content, and future marketing projects will include high spending on digital. To illustrate this is eMarketer’s data on the expected ad expenditure in the US over the next four years. These future projections indicate that not only will digital ad spend increase significantly, increasing on average $13 billion every year, but social and video are the only ad types expected to grow in the near future. While social is expected to grow significantly, video ad types will boom 184% from $9.9 billion to $28 billion in ad spend – making them the fastest growing ad type....
