Mightybell: a 'smarter' social network for groups and businesses | Fortune Tech

Mightybell: a 'smarter' social network for groups and businesses | Fortune Tech | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Gina Bianchini wants local groups and organizations to expect more from their social networks.

Mightybell, a social network that officially launches today, is Bianchini's latest attempt to bring social networking to smaller communities. Her previous startup, Ning, explored custom social networks and was focused on individuals. Now she's taking a different tack with Mightybell, which aims to help small groups organize online.

Backed with $4.2 million in funding from First Round Capital and Floodgate, Mightybell starts with large groups called "communities," which are organized around topic, purpose, course, or profession. Each community has a subset of groups called "circles," where users can read and post content and talk to other users who are also interested in that particular topic....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Intriguing social network Mightybell is worth exploring.

Are we witnessing the birth of a new Social Network?

Are we witnessing the birth of a new Social Network? | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Imagine being able to connect with friends, create status updates that can be as detailed as blog posts, check into and recommend local restaurants, find great news stories and share them with connections, upload images and even create short video snippets.

Sound familiar? If it sounds like Google+, with maybe some Vine and Foursquare thrown into the mix, there's good reason for that. When Google decided to create their new social network, it was a combination of a new platform and strong tie-ins to other platforms, like YouTube, which had been acquired.

So when Marissa Mayer joined Yahoo! as CEO in June, 2012, it's clear that she created a strategy for the Internet Giant to once again become relevant. But what, exactly, that strategy was hasn't been clear. Until now.

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Yahoo's social strategy will take time but could end up being impressive if they keep it as simple as possible.

Agree Laura but there's room for a new tool with smart integrated features. Depends totally on their ingenuity and target..
Michelle Gilstrap's curator insight, July 8, 2013 2:52 PM

Yahoo may be moving into a new platform with many offerings, we will have to wait a little to see what Marissa Mayer has in store for us.
