Facebook just released financial results for Q4 of 2015, and one number starts out in particular: 934 million mobile daily active users (DAUs).

Sure, 0.9 billion might not sound quite as impressive as the 1.04 billion total daily users, but we already knew the company had passed the billion milestone in early November.

There were 894 million mobile DAUs at the time, which means the company has added 40 million more mobile users per day since November, and it will very likely cross 1 billion mobile DAUs sometime this year.

Meanwhile, the company is also slowly encroaching on the 2 billion monthly active users (MAUs) mark – three were 1.59 billion MAUs in December, or 14 percent more than the same time in 2014. Of those, 1.44 came from mobile, an increase of 21 percent, once again showing the quicker growth in the mobile sector....

This is either useful or terrifying, depending on how the data affect you: Researchers at Facebook and Cornell University have figured out a formula that predicts whether a couple is likely to break up within the next 60 days.


Jon Kleinberg, a computer scientist at Cornell, and Lars Backstrom, a senior engineer at Facebook, took a dataset of 1.3 million Facebook users who listed that they were in a relationship. They were actually looking for a formula that could predict which users were in relationships with each other.


They found that the shape, or “dispersion”, of your friends network is the key. You might expect that a cluster of mutual friends indicates two people are in a relationship but the opposite is the case: You’re more likely to have cluster of mutual coworkers listing each other as friends than a couple...

In our latest Facebook rankings, we look at the performance of the biggest sites and stories on Facebook for September 2014, and analyze the most impressive new performers. We’ve consulted Spike’s extensive social database, and have come up with new analysis and data for another month of social publishing activity.


This month: Leaders The Huffington Post have almost 53.5m total interactions. BuzzFeed (2nd) put daylight between themselves and Fox News (3rd). Mirror.co.uk breaks into the overall top ten for the first time, with 11.2m interactions. BBC News, the New York Times and the Guardian all make strong gains....

When a group of teenagers says Facebook "confuses and scares" them and makes their eyes hurt, there may be a problem. Though Facebook is still considered the most popular social network among teens, their enthusiasm seems to be waning.


Some of them blame it on the ads and the games, but they also say it's become too popular with their parents.A recent Pew Research Center report found that 77 percent of online teens are still on Facebook compared with 24 percent on Twitter, but the latter number is up 16 percent since 2011....
