Le mobile Parkinson Disease score pourrait permettre d'évaluer, grâce à une application pour smartphone, la sévérité des symptômes moteurs chez les patients atteints de maladie de Parkinson, suggère une étude publiée dans la revue JAMA Neurology.

Les méthodes actuelles d'évaluation de la maladie de Parkinson sont "subjectives", "expérimentateur-dépendantes" et nécessitent d'être réalisées à l'hôpital, soulignent Andong Zhan de la Johns Hopkins University à Baltimore (Maryland) et ses collègues, estimant que les essais cliniques reposant sur ces mesures sont par conséquent longs, chers et à l'origine de faux-positifs ou de faux-négatifs.

Or, nombre de symptômes moteurs de la maladie de Parkinson sont compatibles avec une évaluation objective par smartphone, soulignent-ils.

Dans leur étude, ils se sont attachés à développer un système permettant d'évaluer la sévérité des symptômes moteurs de la maladie de Parkinson, le mobile Parkinson Disease score (mPDS), à partir d'une application pour smartphone.

D-Eye, a smartphone-based retinal imaging system, has raised $1.68 million (1.5 euros) from Innogest, Invitalia Ventures, Giuseppe e Annamaria Cottino Foundation, and Si14. 

 

The product was first conceived in Padua, Italy, by Dr. Andrea Russo, an ophthalmologist, when he was examining his patients. D-Eye CEO Rick Sill told MobiHealthNews that Russo got the idea when he was with a patient one day and his phone rang.

 

“He looked at the smartphone and said ‘I wonder if it would be possible to use the smartphone as a digital ophthalmoscope because now I could actually capture images using the smartphone. Then I’d be able to transmit those images to other doctors to view if they were so interested,’” Sill explained in an interview. “He went out and bought himself a 3D printer and started cranking out ideas for attaching a lens on top of a smartphone that would allow him to do just that, to image the retina.”

Des scientifiques de l’Université de Columbia ont mis au point un boîtier qu’il suffit de brancher sur les smartphones pour le dépistage du virus du sida. Cet appareil a été testé avec succès au Rwanda auprès d’une centaine de patients.

Il apparait clairement qu’il existe déjà plus de terminaux mobiles accédant à internet que d’ordinateurs individuels. Les ordinateurs ne vont pas disparaitre, mais clairement, le nombre d’utilisateurs de terminaux mobile grimpe à toute vitesse.

Une étude de Deloitte montre que les consommateurs qui utilisent leur smartphone en magasin dépensent plus dans les points de vente. Et ceci, malgré l'effet "showrooming" qui semble être à la mode pour le moment.


Best Buy aux Etats-Unis aurait-il trouvé le bon moyen pour résoudre le problème du showrooming?
