  SOURCE March 15, 2015 A Reuters survey of 23 hospitals found that 14 have begun or are considering running pilot programs using HealthKit to obtain and track basic health information from patients with chronic illnesses such as diabetes and hypertension. Monitoring patients’ blood pressure, weight, and heart rate, may help improve patient outcomes and lower costs. Apple’s remote-health-monitoring competition, Google and Samsung Electronics, have only begun marketing their services to doctors and hospitals, the Reuters report said. Healthcare organizations are eager to jump on the remote-monitoring bandwagon for a few reasons. Monitoring patients’ vital signs between office visits gives healthcare practitioners a chance to intervene before patients become sicker. Reducing hospital readmissions will also help the bottom line and keep the federal government from exacting new penalties on healthcare organizations. This is pretty interesting. However, I figured this would be the case because it is more likely for there to be hospital errors when staff relies on pen and paper; due to the fact that some handwriting is hard to interpret.
