nicoleta susanu's insight:
Topic: Buildings design for new highly energy performing buildings

Scope: Projects should focus on development and demonstration of solutions which significantly reduce the cost of new buildings with at least 'nearly zero-energy' performance levels, whilst accelerating significantly the speed with which these buildings and their systems are taken up by the market. The focus should lie on solutions for appropriate indoor air quality and comfort, design adapted to local climate and site, passive solutions (reducing the need for technical building systems which consume energy) or active solutions (covering a high share of the energy demand with renewable energies), building energy management systems (where appropriate), highly efficient Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC, e.g. low temperature systems, solar cooling), electric and/or thermal energy storage of renewable energy onsite and nearby. Projects should also provide solutions for automated and cost-effective maintenance of the installed equipment, and assess differences between predicted and actual energy performance. Such differences should be documented and minimized.The applied solutions should address the challenge to move towards a 'nearly-zero energy' buildings standard at large scale with demonstration projects that go beyond 'nearly-zero energy' buildings levels to the point where buildings are active contributors to energy production and environmental quality in particular when new districts are planned (e.g. net-zero energy neighbourhoods). The energy balance should be calculated by means of a LCA approach, considering among other issues embodied energy.

Expected Impact: Significant increase of the share of 'nearly zero-energy' buildings with the aim of 100% market uptake by the end of 2020. Costs reductions of at least 15% compared to current situation, with additional benefits in terms of energy reduction. Demonstration for net-zero energy districts taking advantage of onsite or nearby-generation of renewable energy.

nicoleta susanu's insight:

The European Commission has launched a call for tender for a study to assess the progress of the eHealth Action Plan in every objective. This will steer the preparation and design of the post-2015 programming period.

The evaluation of the eHealth Action Plan 2012-2020 will contribute to the eHealth strategy of DG CONNECT and could support the same exercise by 2020.

The current study should include the assessment of the progress of the e-HAP in every objective by:
1. analysing the added value of having an action plan;
2. providing an overview of the implementation of the e-HAP in the first 2-3 years, including a quantitative and
qualitative description of the priorities set, the financial mechanisms used (e.g. operating grants, joint actions,
tenders, etc.), the beneficiaries reached, the actions funded, and the intended results;
3. assessing the relevance, effectiveness and efficiency of the funded actions, taking into consideration the
fact that the majority of the actions funded will not have provided all the deliverables and final reports when the
evaluation takes place, so the assessment of impact will have to be forward-looking. However, some preliminary
outcome should be analysed, above all related to the data strategy;
4. assessing the impact and adoption of the policy targets.
This assessment should include desk work on the projects and studies supported by the EC, in addition to a
survey with representatives of MSs or other key stakeholders about the progress, impact and added value of
the actions which have taken place. The study should look for quantitative and objective indicators. Satisfaction
surveys should be complementary.

Research Participant Portal is your entry point for electronic administration of EU-funded research and innovation projects
nicoleta susanu's insight:

Topic: Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks (ITN-EID)

European Industrial Doctorates (EID)

EIDs have the objective of training highly-skilled researchers and stimulating entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation in Europe. This is to be achieved in particular by involving the non-academic sector in doctoral training so that skills better match public and private sector needs. Each EID is composed of at least two beneficiaries established in two different Member States or Associated Countries. At least one beneficiary must be entitled to award doctoral degrees  and at least one beneficiary must come from the non-academic sector, primarily enterprise. Each participating researcher must be enrolled in a doctoral programme and spend at least 50% of their time in the non-academic sector. The joint supervision of fellows by supervisors from each sector is mandatory. A wider set of partner organisations may also complement the training. Note that EID proposals will be ranked in a separate panel with a dedicated budget of €25 million.

Topic: Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks (ITN-EJD) MSCA-ITN-2015-EJD

European Joint Doctorates (EJD)

EJDs have the objective of promoting international, intersectoral and multi/inter-disciplinary collaboration in doctoral-level training in Europe through the creation of joint doctoral programmes, leading to the delivery of joint, double or multiple doctoral degrees.

Topic: Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks (ITN-ETN)  MSCA-ITN-2015-ETN

Call for proposal HCO-13-2015 Health Co-ordination Activities Topic: ERA-NET: Cardiovascular disease

Call for proposal HCO-13-2015 Health Co-ordination Activities Topic: ERA-NET: Cardiovascular disease | EU FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT TIPS | Scoop.it
Research Participant Portal is your entry point for electronic administration of EU-funded research and innovation projects
nicoleta susanu's insight:

Specific challenge: Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the largest cause of death in the EU and account for 40% of deaths or 2 million deaths per year. Overall CVD is estimated to cost the EU economy almost EUR 110 billion a year, and they are also one of the leading causes of long term sickness and loss to the labour market. CVD is therefore a major health problem in every country in Europe.

Scope: Proposals should coordinate national and regional programmes for research in the area cardiovascular research by implementing a transnational call with EU co-funding resulting in grants to third parties. Moreover, proposals should also aim at the better collaboration and alignment of national programmes and activities and should provide concrete plans for decreasing fragmentation, for data sharing, for addressing hurdles for effective coordination, for involving stakeholders and relevant existing initiatives. The Commission considers that proposals requesting a contribution from the EU of a minimum of EUR 5 million would allow this specific challenge to be addressed appropriately. Nonetheless, this does not preclude submission and selection of proposals requesting other amounts.

Expected impact:

·         Stepping up funding of transnational collaborative research projects in the area of cardiovascular research;

·         Identification of common research priorities and research needs, also taking into account developments on the international level where relevant;

·         Establishment and/or implementation of a common strategic research agenda;

·         Development and alignment of national and regional plans;

·         Streamlined national or regional practices in organising research funding;

·         Increased interoperability of national research programmes;

·         Prioritisation of transnational research;

·         Sharing of data and knowledge;

·         Networking of infrastructures and databases;

·         Contribution to the establishment of the ERA by addressing issues related for example to administrative hurdles, IPR management and different practices regarding resource sharing.

HCO-12-2015 Call for proposal ERA NET: Antimicrobial resistance #H2020

HCO-12-2015 Call for proposal ERA NET: Antimicrobial resistance #H2020 | EU FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT TIPS | Scoop.it
Research Participant Portal is your entry point for electronic administration of EU-funded research and innovation projects
nicoleta susanu's insight:

Specific challenge: Antibiotic resistance is a global problem. It is considered by the World Health Organization as one of the three greatest threats to human health for the next decades. In Europe, however, research on the resistance to antibiotics and on how to make sustainable use of antibiotics is fragmented. In addition, few countries have specific programs dedicated to this field of research.

The Joint Programming Initiative (JPI) on Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR) provides an excellent opportunity for joint research of the EU Member States addressing the emerging problem of antibiotic resistance in human and veterinary medicine. Indeed, the currently funded research projects in national or trans-national programs are usually the result of calls initiated within other research areas rather than from research programmes specifically focusing on AMR. Consequently, the variable and non-permanent resources of trans-national organisations and individual countries are insufficient to provide the long-term funding opportunities that are required to solve the major research questions concerning AMR. In addition, research activities on AMR are not harmonised between countries; which may lead to duplications in the research being performed in different countries.

The 19 participating countries of the AMR JPI aim to accomplish the coordination of European research on AMR in close collaboration with the funding instruments of the EU; specifically Horizon 2020, Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) and the ERA-NET Infect-ERA.

This will create the necessary critical mass and develop the most advanced scientific approaches to tackle the problem of AMR, reversing its increasing trend, in the way forward defined by the Strategic Research Agenda which is to be adopted by the JPIAMR in early 2014.

This transnational cooperation will enhance the societal impact that is required in this area, promoting knowledge dissemination among multiple sectors of the society that are implicated – patients, clinical, veterinarians, pharmacists, food producers and representatives of the pharmaceutical industry.

Co-funding of regional, national and international funding programmes Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND Action in Horizon 2020

nicoleta susanu's insight:

The COFUND scheme aims at stimulating regional, national or international programmes operating in Europe to foster excellence in researchers’ training, mobility and career development, spreading the best practices of Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. The programmes can be new or already in existence, but they must be either:

  • Fellowship Programmes or
  • Doctoral Programmes

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND Action in Horizon 2020 is a continuation of the FP7 COFUND programme.

Consultation for new FET Proactive topics - A Europe 2020 Initiative
nicoleta susanu's insight:

The consultation is open till 15 June 2014.

Contributors can suggest ideas for a new Future and Emerging Technologies (FET)  Proactive initiative or discuss the 9 research topics identified in the previous consultation to determine whether they are still relevant today:

  • Bottom-up intelligent construction
  • Constructive symbiosis
  • Ecological technology
  • Global Systems Science
  • Knowing, doing and being
  • Nano-optomechanical technologies
  • New possibilities at the nano-bio-chem interface
  • Quantum technologies
  • Time for time

Under Horizon 2020, FET actions have been allocated a provisional budget of 2 696 million euro.
