The Microfinance and Social Entrepreneurship (MF/SE) axis supports actions in two thematic sections:
1. Micro-enterprises are enterprises employing fewer than 10 people and which have an annual turnover or annual balance sheet total or maximum EUR 2 million. Microcredit is a loan of up to EUR 25 000.
If you are a micro-entrepreneur and would like to apply for a micro loan find more information about EU microfinance support.
2. A social enterprise combines entrepreneurial activity with a social purpose. Its main aim is to have a social impact, rather than maximise profit for owners or shareholders. Businesses providing social services and/or goods and services to vulnerable persons are a typical example of social enterprise.

The new fund called EaSI Funded Instrument has been launched with a loan fund of €200 million to boost the lending capacity of microfinance institutions and social enterprise lenders in Europe.
nicoleta susanu's insight:
In line with the objectives of the EaSI programme, the new EaSI Funded Instrument seeks to improve access to finance for micro-enterprises (including the self-employed and those that employ vulnerable people) and social enterprises in order to create jobs and support social inclusion. The EaSI Funded Instrument provides senior and subordinated loans to eligible financial intermediaries in order to increase their capacity to provide financing to micro-enterprises and social enterprises, as well as mobilizing their own resources to grow their microfinance or social entrepreneurship portfolios. The decision to provide EU financing will be made by the local financial institutions such as banks, venture capitalists or angel investors. You have a right to get feedback from credit institutions on their credit decision. This can help you understand your financial position and improve your chances to obtain financing in the future. Use your right and refer to Article 431 of the EU Capital Requirements Regulation.

The Employment and Social Innovation (EaSI) programme supports organisations throughout the European Union and other European countries participating in the programme. The degree of participation differs from country to country and from call for proposals to call for proposals.
nicoleta susanu's insight:
Participation, and hence the chances of success, depends heavily on the themes and objectives of the call for proposals. Some calls can be very specific and targeted leading to a lower interest to participate and therefore less competition. The average success rate of (see the chart) is quite high. However, most calls are open to a restricted audience only, increasing the chance of receiving a grant for those organisations that qualify for these calls.

Call name:BUILDING A LOW-CARBON, CLIMATE RESILIENT FUTURE: SECURE, CLEAN AND EFFICIENT ENERGY | Call ID:H2020-LC-SC3-2018-2019-2020
Scope: Integrated innovative solutions for Positive Energy Blocks/Districts will be developed and tested and performance-monitored in the Lighthouse Cities. Projects will consider the interaction and integration between the buildings, the users and the larger energy system as well as implications of increased deployment of electro-mobility, its impact on the energy system and its integration in planning. Lighthouse Cities will closely collaborate with Fellow Cities[3] and should act as exemplars helping to plan and initiate the replication of the deployed solutions in the Fellow cities, adapted to different local conditions. As a sustainable energy transition will see increased electro-mobility, its impact on the energy system needs to be understood and well integrated in planning. Definition: Positive Energy Blocks/Districts consist of several buildings (new, retro-fitted or a combination of both) that actively manage their energy consumption and the energy flow between them and the wider energy system. Positive Energy Blocks/Districts have an annual positive energy balance[4]. They make optimal use of elements such as advanced materials (e.g. bio-based materials), local RES, local storage, smart energy grids, demand-response, cutting edge energy management (electricity, heating and cooling), user interaction/involvement and ICT. Positive Energy Blocks/Districts are designed to be integral part of the district/city energy system and have a positive impact on it (also from the circular economy point of view). Their design is intrinsically scalable and they are well embedded in the spatial, economic, technical, environmental and social context of the project site.

Scope: The proposals will develop and test novel solutions and tools for demand response and energy services, using real consumption data and feedback from the testing of services with the objective to improve predictability of consumption and consumer behaviour (aiming to create a digital twin of the consumer). The main focus will be on households, but other types of consumers (residential, industrial, commercial and tertiary, including prosumers who are self-consuming part of the energy they produce) may be included. Proposals will demonstrate services that bring a fair share of benefits to consumers and to the energy system, in particular the electricity grid.

European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP on AHA)
What is a Reference Site? Reference Sites represent an alliance or partnership of stakeholders within a region or major metropolitan area. Successful Reference Sites bring together a wide range of stakeholders (e.g. public bodies/care providers, industry, academia and civil society) into a coherent partnership to understand and address the challenges of delivering health and care services to an ageing population. These collaborations drive structural change far beyond the scope any one particular organisation could achieve on its own. They help to create an environment for other regions across Europe to learn, transfer and adapt knowledge to local realities, with regional, social and economic development as the long-term objective.
