EU FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT TIPS

From 23rd June, a preparation phase is opened to allow project partners to prepare their application before submitting it.

The First call for modular projects proposals will be opened from 1st September 2015 to 2nd November 2015. Project partners will be able to submit their application online on the Synergie website. The timeframe being very short, we advise you not to leave it to the last minute to upload your proposal documents.

After the assessment and approval phase, projects are expected to start in September 2016.

The 2014 CEF Transport Multi-annual Call's Funding Objective 2 has a budget of €250 million.

Funding Objective 2 aims at ensuring sustainable and efficient transport systems in the long run, with a view to preparing for expected future transport flows, as well as enabling all modes of transport to be decarbonised through transition to innovative low-carbon and energy-efficient transport technologies, while optimising safety. It addresses the following priorities:

• Deployment of new technologies and innovation in all transport modes, with a focus on decarbonisation, safety and innovative technologies for the promotion of sustainability, operation, management, accessibility, multimodality and efficiency of the network
• Safe and secure infrastructure - including safe and secure parking on the road Core Network

Deadline for submission: 26 February 2015

Priorities:

Funding Objective 1:
• Railways, inland waterways and roads projects on the Core Network including connections to inland and maritime ports and airports, as well as the development of ports
• Projects on the Comprehensive Network (railways, inland waterways, roads, maritime and inland ports)
• Projects to connect the TEN-T with infrastructure networks of the neighbouring countries - in particular related to cross-border sections (railways, inland waterways, roads, maritime and inland ports)

Funding Objective 2:
• Deployment of new technologies and innovation, other than those covered by the Multi-annual Work Programme
• Freight transport services
• Actions to reduce rail freight noise, including by retrofitting of existing rolling stock

Funding Objective 3:
• Telematic applications systems other than those covered by the Multi-Annual Work Programme
• Actions for better accessibility to transport infrastructure for disabled persons
• Actions implementing transport infrastructure in nodes of the core network, including urban nodes
• Connections to and development of multimodal logistics platforms

Deadline for submission: 26 February 2015

Under the current "call for proposals" €7.56 billion are being made available to improve European transport infrastructure, promote innovation and new technologies, develop intelligent transport systems and mitigate the safety and environmental impact of the sector. Out of the total amount available, €1.09 billion are earmarked for projects in all Member States while €6.47 billion are foreseen exclusively for projects in Member States eligible for funding from the EU's Cohesion Fund.

Two calls for proposals in the areas of Green Vehicles and Mobility for Growth opened , with a deadline on 15 October. In total €48,5 million will be made available to the applicants from Horizon 2020 (H2020), the EU's research and innovation framework programme.

Specific challenge: Facilitate trans-national co-operation between NCPs within the Transport Challenge with a view to identifying and sharing good practices and raising the general standard of support to programme applicants, taking into account the diversity of actors that make up the constituency of the Transport Challenge.

Scope: Support will be given to a consortium of formally nominated NCPs in the area of Transport. The activities will be tailored according to the nature of the area, and the priorities of the NCPs concerned. Various mechanisms may be included, such as benchmarking, joint workshops, enhanced cross-border brokerage events, specific training linked to the Transport Challenge as well as to gender dimension of Research and Innovation, and twinning schemes. Special attention will be given to enhance the competence of NCPs, including helping less experienced NCPs rapidly acquire the know-how accumulated in other countries.

The focus throughout should be on issues specific to the Transport Challenge, and should not duplicate actions foreseen in the NCP network for quality standards and horizontal issues under ‘Science with and for Society’.

Only NCPs from EU Member States and Associated Countries which have been officially appointed by the relevant national authorities are eligible to participate in and receive funding for this action.

The consortium should have a good representation of experienced and less experienced NCPs.
