Specific objectives

to empower, strengthen and support the work of actors in the communities and the society to address conflict and violence,
to contribute to promoting peace in Southern Highlands, Hela and Enga Provinces.

Priorities

Promote the participation of individuals and communities to take an active role in managing and resolving conflicts at all levels to contribute to achieving peaceful and inclusive societies.

The United Nations Democracy Fund is expected to open its next proposal window on 22 November 2019. The window is expected to remain open for a month. Only project proposals submitted on-line in either English or French, the two working languages of the UN, will be accepted.

UNDEF supports projects that strengthen the voice of civil society, promote human rights, and encourage the participation of all groups in democratic processes. UNDEF projects are two years long. Applicants can request a grant of a minimum of 100,000 US dollars and a maximum of 300,000 US dollars.

The global objective of this Call for Proposals is to contribute to the respect for fundamental human rights and freedoms in Trinidad and Tobago.

The specific objectives of this Call for Proposals is to support activities aiming to create enabling environment conducive to tackling Human rights issues in Trinidad and Tobago.

Types of action which may be financed under this call include:

Support activities aiming to address gender based violence

activities pertaining to advocacy and education designed to specifically target groups to combat stereotypes and to transform negative gender norms amongst the various segments of population; o public awareness campaigns in mass media to influence public opinion (videos, documentaries, developing apps, television clippings, publishing research findings);
activities to support re-education of perpetrators of gender-based violence; o research on issues pertaining to support the prevention measures of gender-based violence and global promotion of gender equality

Support activities aiming to safeguard the rights of Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI):

public awareness campaigns in mass media to influence public anti - discrimination opinion (videos, documentaries, developing apps, television clippings, publishing research findings);
campaigns for promoting anti-discrimination legislation;
dialogue to promote broad consensus between groups with opposing interests;
seminars, developing modules and training materials aiming to promote capacity strengthening of competent authorities on LGBTIs issues.
Research on issues pertaining to promote LGBTIs rights

The deadline for the submission of concept notes is 17 June 2016 at 22:00 (Brussels local time).

To support other priorities of the Union in the field of human rights where the Union has an added value or specific thematic commitment (EIDHR Global Objective 2).

Specific objective

To support the work of civil society organisations in addressing the needs of vulnerable and marginalised groups (IPs and human rights defenders) with a particular focus on protecting them and supporting their empowerment to claim their rights.

Support to human rights defenders and organisations on the topics of: encouraging a culture of tolerance and inclusiveness, notably in relation to recommendations from UN and other regional bodies in particular the Universal Periodic Review 2016 of the Kingdom of Eswatini.
Women participation in decision making and advocacy for legal reforms necessary to promote and defend women's rights
Strengthening the capacity of citizens, civil society and the media to participate and develop public debates on human rights and gender equality issues.

The aim of the call is to support the organization and implementation of short campaigns or one-time movements, social or/and joint actions. The actions must address one or several of the below horizontal concerns of the EEA/Norway grants:

human rights and the rights of minorities (based on ethnic, religious, linguistic and sexual orientation), equal opportunities;
combating racism and xenophobia, homophobia, anti-Semitism, extremism;
tolerance, multicultural understanding and social inclusion instead of discrimination and exclusion;
understanding, mitigation and solution of problems arising from poverty and inequalities (with special attention to the situation of Roma);
promoting gender equality, combating inequalities, gender-based and domestic violence and trafficking.
