EU FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT TIPS

FI Campus 2018 is an event for all ESIF financial instruments practitioners from across the EU. It is organised by the European Commission in partnership with the European Investment Bank (EIB).

FI Campus 2018 participants will have the opportunity to create their own individual learning curricula, choosing from parallel sessions of their particular interest:
 

• Case studies on ESIF financial instruments 2014-2020 in different Member States and regions for a number of Thematic Objectives, including practical examples of using opportunities of the new Omnibus Regulation to combine ESIF and EFSI resources, 
• Workshops on key horizontal topics related to ESIF financial instruments 2014-2020,
• Discussion panels on the role of financial intermediaries,
• Also fund-specific sessions related to financial instruments under the:
  • - European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), 
  • - European Social Fund (ESF), 
  • - European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), and the 
  • - European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF).

Online registration will close on Friday, 23 November 2018. 

As in 2016 and 2017, the 2018 Programme Guide places a special focus on encouraging projects supporting social inclusion (notably of refugees and migrants), as well as preventing radicalisation.

The document provides information on:

• the priorities of the programme,
• the actions supported,
• the funding available for different actions,
• detailed information on participation.

Smart Maintenance

This topic aims at carrying out CBM research activities for the part related to passenger trains, while the others regarding infrastructure components will be covered within S2R-CFM-IP3-02-2016 and freight trains within S2R-OC-IP5-03-2015. CBM presents a significant value potential for: − Maintenance strategies, for faults prevention (i.e. early detection) and troubleshooting − Asset Management strategies, for adapting and optimising maintenance activities to diverse clusters of similar assets.

Human Capital

The challenge of this action is to cover the future needs of the railway sector in terms of human capital focusing on customer-oriented design of mobility, with an overall objective to bridge the gap between the massive changes in the railway and other industrial sectors imposed by rapid technological advances (e.g. automation and digitization, comprehending the use of planning apps by customers on their own devices) and the substantial demographic change expected in the near future. The specific challenge is manage these changes impacting on human capital.

Objective:

The COFUND scheme aims to stimulate regional, national or international programmes to foster excellence in researchers' training, mobility and career development, spreading the best practices of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions.

This will be achieved by co-funding new or existing regional, national, and international programmes to open up to, and provide for, international, intersectoral and interdisciplinary research training, as well as transnational and cross-sectoral mobility of researchers at all stages of their career.

Scope:

RISE involves organisations from the academic and non-academic sectors (in particular SMEs), based in Europe (EU Member States and Horizon 2020 Associated Countries) and outside Europe (third countries).

Support is provided for the development of partnerships in the form of a joint research and innovation project. This is aimed at knowledge sharing via international as well as intersectoral mobility, based on secondments of research and innovation staff (exchanges) with an in-built return mechanism.

The organisations constituting the partnership contribute directly to the implementation of a joint research and innovation project by seconding and/or hosting eligible staff members. Secondments shall always take place between legal entities independent from each other.

Exchanges can be for both early-stage and experienced researchers and can also include administrative, managerial and technical staff directly involved in the research and innovation activities of the proposal.

Support for the exchanges between institutions within Europe (EU Member States and Horizon 2020 Associated Countries) covers only intersectoral secondments.

The aim of the pilot project on "Europe of diversities" is to enhance the motto of the European Union: "United in diversity" especially on local and regional level. With the pilot project EU citizens in regions with multicultural and multilingual background, or where minority groups are particularly excluded or subject to discrimination, would receive the possibility to understand better each other's culture, language and identity. Mutual understanding, acceptance and tolerance is a core element of fruitful coexistence of different ethnic, religious, national and linguistic groups, as well as of different generations and minority groups more generally. The pilot project would contribute to the work which has been already done in the field of non-discrimination, education and language learning, however the objective is to reach different groups of the society and to foster the multicultural dialogue between the EU citizens on local and regional level on one hand, and through the exchange of opportunities on EU-level on the other hand. One of the strengths and richness of the EU is in its diversity.

This handbook on “Writing to grab attention” aims to help EU-funded projects understand the difference between good and bad writing, using real examples we have come across in our work for the European Neighbourhood Info Centre. The names of projects used in most of the examples have been changed. We also share with the reader some useful tips we are using as journalists and communications experts. The handbook focuses on print material, for practical purposes.

This Work Programme will achieve its objectives through four calls, addressing all the bioeconomy sectors from the sustainable exploration of the oceans and seas and the development of a blue economy, to climate-smart agriculture, new models for development in rural areas, new biobased goods and services:

1. Sustainable Food Security – Resilient and resource-efficient value chains: this call addresses the issues of resilience and efficiency in the food value chain. It will support research and innovation all along the food chain, from primary production, food processing to healthy and safe foods and diets.

2. Blue Growth – Demonstrating an ocean of opportunities: this call will test, demonstrate, scale-up and bring to the market innovative marine and maritime technologies, products and services, as well as exploring the interactions between the oceans and human health, and strengthening the European capability to observe and map oceans and seas basins and improving the professional skills and competences for those working and being trained to work within the blue economy.

3. Rural Renaissance – Fostering innovation and business opportunities: this call will focus on innovation as driver for rural development, with a particular emphasis on developing framework conditions for innovation and new business models adapted to the rural context, and support for skills development in rural communities.

4. Bio-based innovation for sustainable goods and services – Supporting the development of a European Bioeconomy: this call will help to securing sustainable biomass supply for biobased goods and services and will support the future development of bio-based markets, for example by promoting stakeholder engagement
