Facebook "Like-gating" means asking people to like your page for some type of reward. This used to be a very popular method of social media marketing on Facebook, but in August 2014 this tactic was banned. Facebook wanted people to like things because they wanted to, not because of a reward.
However, this article tells you how to get around it. A couple of the ones I found useful and easy to implement were:
- Use your current email subscribers. Go through email to ask them to like or follow you. You can easily put icons at the bottom that connect to your social media profiles, making it easy for the readers to navigate to.
- Go around Facebook by asking people to like your page on Twitter. You can easily shorten your link and make it quick to get to your Facebook page.
- Get current followers to get their friends to subscribe. You can give them incentives for this. Ex: get a friend to follow and receive 10% off your next purchase. This is a good way to get around the new Facebook policy, however, many think this will be banned too soon.
The email subscription is a good idea in theory, however, I am not to sure how many people really read those emails. Maybe this would be a good way to get people to actually get involved in your company. If you can successfully move your email subscribers to Facebook followers, you can get them more instant updates and successfully reach them through their NewsFeed. Not only that, but it will boost your reputation to gain likes on your Facebook page.
